Almost there!

Pre-Algebra is almost over! All that is left is a final exam! Answer the following questions:

1) Have you already started studying for the final exam? If so, what have you done? If not, what do you plan on doing to prepare yourself?

2) Has this year been challenging for you? Do you think you performed the best you could have? What could you have done differently?

3) The Algebra I course at KIS is challenging. Do you think you need to hone up on any skills over the summer, or do you feel confident about your mathematics ability? If so, what skills?

4) Did you like Pre-Algebra class this year? Why or why not? (Be honest, but be respectful.)

  1. 1) I have not been studying for the final exam yet. I think I will look back at the change in percentages and proportions because in the scavenger hunt I did not know how to do a question about that.
    2) This year has not been challenging for me because math has always been an easy subject for me. But don't think I performed my best because I have missed a lot of homework, sometimes I was not focused and stuff like that. I would have tried to remember doing my homework more if I could have done things differently.
    3) I feel pretty confident about my mathematics ability but I think I'm going to study over the summer because my parents want me to go to 9th grade math next year.
    4) The class was fun so I enjoyed it. The teacher was nice, there were a lot of fun projects and activities, and it was easy.

  2. 1) Yes I am almost done with studying my final exam. I looked over the chapter 6-12 and I reviewed some questions on each chapter. I am going to look over more questions for the final exam.
    2) I think this year was confortable and good. I performed my best in this class too. If I could done something different, I would like to do well on chapter tests and projects. It was my best math class I ever had!
    3) I already studied Algebra I during this year. I think I can do well on Algbra I and I really want to be in your class next year!
    4) This year's class so so exiting and fun because Mr. Jobe was our teacher! Next year I really want to be in you class.

  3. 1) Yes, I am currently studying for the final exams next week. When I was studying I mostly went over the homework, test, quizzes and the study guide. I also went through the notes we took during class.
    2) I think this year has been very fair(?) There were some lessons that I were strong with and didn't have a problem with but some lessons were a little challenging for me. I honestly don't think I did the best I could this year. Although I have an A, I sometimes forgot about my homework or wasn't prepared for class. If I were to do it again, I would study harder for my tests and use my time wisely.
    3) I am actually going over the Algebra textbook we are going to use next year. I usually do this because I sometimes have a hard time doing well with the speed we learn at at school. But, for the math we have done this year, I am pretty confident because I fully understand everything by now.
    4) Yes, I enjoyed Pre-Algebra this year. I personally enjoy Math because it is one of my favorite subjects and while we learned, we did many helpful and fun activities that helped me understand better and also made the class more fun.

  4. 1) Have you already started studying for the final exam? If so, what have you done? If not, what do you plan on doing to prepare yourself?
Yes, I started studying final exam. I have done until chapter 9.

Has this year been challenging for you? Do you think you performed the best you could have? What could you have done differently?
This year sometimes had been a challenge for me and sometimes not a challenge for me. I think I didn’t perform the best this year but I tried. I could have concentrate on what Mr. Jobe say and study more and have a good grade for test.

The Algebra I course at KIS is challenging. Do you think you need to hone up on any skills over the summer, or do you feel confident about your mathematics ability? If so, what skills?
Yes, I think I need to study a little more. However, I think I am going to do well on algebra I well. I hope I can be in your class next year.

Did you like Pre-Algebra class this year? Why or why not? (Be honest, but be respectful.)
I really enjoyed algebra class, because of you Mr. Jobe!! But sometimes it was hard and rough so it wasn’t that enjoyable that kind of times but rest of the time it was fun!

  5. 1) Have you already started studying for the final exam? If so, what have you done? If not, what do you plan on doing to prepare yourself?

I did not start studying for the finals, which I regret, but I promise to study everything from Friday-Monday. I am very well aware that the finals are going to decide my grade for this semester. Scary.

    2) Has this year been challenging for you? Do you think you performed the best you could have? What could you have done differently?

This year had been more challenging for me than in the states. In California, I took an accelerated math class for Pre-Algebra and then the questions for tests were very simple. Getting perfect scores were easier. Then when I came to Mr. Jobe’s math class, everything changed. I was looking at more advanced and tricky problems than I was used to solving before. I never received a hundred on the tests, but for the quizzes. I did not believe that I could’ve done the best, for most of the time, I did simple mistakes (on my first test, I forgot to do two problems that were worth three points each), thinking to easily. What I would’ve done differently was that I would read the question carefully and triple check my work unless I run out of time.

The Algebra I course at KIS is challenging. Do you think you need to hone up on any skills over the summer, or do you feel confident about your mathematics ability? If so, what skills?

Over the summer, I think I need to practice more on the concepts I learned this semester because I keep doing simple mistakes all the time. To prevent this from happening, I just need more practice. For example, I need to practice graphing linear equations, simple interest, and percent of change. Sometimes I forget the formulas.

Did you like Pre-Algebra class this year? Why or why not? (Be honest, but be respectful.)

Pre-Algebra was a blast. We did fun projects and activities like the Scavenger Hunt and the Marketplace Project (I had a feast^^). Though I was in a math class full of seventh graders it made no difference. In fact, I thought it would’ve been less fun if I was in a class with 9 sixth graders. Of all, it would’ve never ended this way if it wasn’t for Mr. Jobe. He explained the concepts easily for us to understand and always supported us the whole way through. His Korean vocabulary was amazing for an American, and whenever we needed him, he was always there to help.

  6. 1. Yes I have started to study for the final exam. I went to Mr. Jobes wiki page and checked all the homework in calendar and did about 5 questions on every homework.

    2. This year was quite challenging for me. I was never good at math, and I didn’t really properly learn math in english. I think I performed good enough, although I am bit regretful that I could not get and A. I think that I could have tried to do all of my homework.

    3. I feel a little nervous about doing algebra next year. I know that I should practice during the summer, but I never seem to be able to do so during the breaks.

    4. Pre-algebra was awesome this year. Until now I was at a Korean school, and they taught horribly and I hated math. This year I was able to learn a lot, and raise my grades. The teacher was nice and funny, and it was a small cozy class.

  7. 1) Yes, I started studying for the finals. I went over the study guide and my hagwon helped me a little with reviewing. After, i am going to make sure that I look at the notes I took during class.

    2) Yes, Pre-Algebra was a little challenging. I don’t think I performed the best I can because I could’ve reviewed daily so that it is easier to catch up with the class.

    3) Yes, I think I need to review and go over the skills I’ve learned over the summer. I think I need to work more on geometry more than any other skills.

    4) Honestly, I am not a type of person who enjoys mathematics. But I think B block mathematics class was awesome. Everyone in class was friendly including Mr.Jobe and I’ve learned a lot which made me enjoy my math class this year

  8. 1) Have you already started studying for the final exam? If so, what have you done? If not, what do you plan on doing to prepare yourself?

I have not yet started studying for the final exam but I am going to push myself on the weekend. Currently, I did my social studies projects and P.E projects so that I do not need to do those on the weekends.

    2) Has this year been challenging for you? Do you think you performed the best you could have? What could you have done differently?

Yes, this year has been really challenging for me because pre-algebra was harder than I expected. I think I could have been a little better by getting a little better grades on tests. I could have read the textbooks and reviewed once more to get more grades.

    3) The Algebra I course at KIS is challenging. Do you think you need to hone up on any skills over the summer, or do you feel confident about your mathematics ability? If so, what skills?

I think I really need to work up to at least catch up with the Algebra I corse because I am already having difficulties in pre-algebra.

    4) Did you like Pre-Algebra class this year? Why or why not? (Be honest, but be respectful.)

I did not really like Pre-Algebra class this year because for me, math is my worst subject and I really did not like math so I had a hard time catching up this year.

  9. 1) Have you already started studying for the final exam? If so, what have you done? If not, what do you plan on doing to prepare yourself?
Yes, I've reviewed study guide and if I didn't know, it found it from textbook.
    2) Has this year been challenging for you? Do you think you performed the best you could have? What could you have done differently?
No,No, I could've look the questions more carefully on quizzes and tests...
    3) The Algebra I course at KIS is challenging. Do you think you need to hone up on any skills over the summer, or do you feel confident about your mathematics ability? If so, what skills?
I feel confident since I finished Algebra I course
    4) Did you like Pre-Algebra class this year? Why or why not? (Be honest, but be respectful.)
Yes I like this Pre-Algebra class because it was easy for me except for some parts such as equations because I came from korean school.

  10. 1) To study for my math exam, I first finished the study guide, and compared the answers, and fixed my mistakes, making sure I understood why I got that question wrong. After I fixed my mistakes, I did the whole study guide over again, and the second time, I didn't get any questions wrong. I also reviewed some of my other tests, and looked through the mistakes I've made.

    2) It depended; sometimes it was challenging, and sometimes it wasn't. Challenging times were when I couldn't fully understand the concept, and the way you solve something, but I gradually got more familiar as I practiced more and more. If I were to do something differently, I would have a more eager mind, and try more harder for a better grade. I didn't really push myself in math this year, and tried not to stress over it, but if I was more competitive, I think I would have gotten a better grade. So, next year, I'll become more of a competitive, and try to get better grades!

    3) My mom is planning to get a math tutor for me, so I could study and review my math over the summer. Knowing the fact that Algebra class will be quite difficult, I think I should really work hard over the summer.

    4) Math is not one of my favorite subjects, and I've never really enjoyed math class, but this class, to tell you honestly, I've enjoyed it. I liked the small class first of all, because things seemed to really go smoother than a big class with more than twenty students. Also, Mr.Jobe was a really nice and entertaining teacher, who helped math class become an enjoyable thing :)
