Equation #3

4 comments:

  1. Lynn and her classmates were having a science experiment. She stole sevreal sodas and ran as fast as she can. She poured 3/4 of all the soda she has to a beaker so that she would drink the left overs. While doing the experiment, another soda was dilivered to her class. She poured in to the beaker also. Now she has amount of 7 soda cans in the beaker. How many soda cans did Lynn steal before 1 can gets dilivered to her class?

Reflection- Liz Lee & Hojun Byun

    1. Yes, we kind of think the equation fits the story and it is functional. And yes, we think that we would write the right equation after reading the story.
    2. We think it kind of makes sense because it wasn’t 100 percent clear. We think this because some parts were just grammatically hard to understand and she just said 3/4 of all the soda, but she should have said 3/4 of m number of soda cans because the whole equation asks how many cans m represents.
    3. Yes, there are a few grammatical mistakes like how ‘dilivered’ should have been spelled as ‘delivered’ and how ‘sevreal’ should have been spelled as ‘several’. But we think ‘sevreal’ was just a typo. Plus, some parts didn’t make sense like at the end of the second sentence when it said ‘...all the soda she has to a beaker so that she would drink the left overs’.
    4. Yes, we think the use of soda and Lynn’s name was creative.
    5. The positive points are that it is creative and it did make sense.

  3. Yes, the story fits with the equation. It was functional and Andy and I would write this as our word problem. It makes sense; the story was unique but simple so that it was easy for us to understand it. For improvement, they could have cared more in their grammar errors (yes there were grammar mistakes). Instead of writing "has to a beaker" , they should have written "has in a beaker". The story is creative, it could have been better if this problem was something happening during math class! The positive point about this word problem was that it was very creative and the story was funny but clear and unique in the same time -andy&yewon-

    1. Does the story fit with the equation? Is it functional? Would you actually write this equation from this word story problem?
Yes the story fits well with the equation and is functional. I would actually use this equation to solve the world problem.

    2. Does it make sense, or is it a little confusing? Discuss what is not clear, and suggest improvements.
Yes it did make sense, but the part where she said "another soda" was not clear about how many soda was actually delivered until the end of the problem where she said one can.

    3. Are there any grammatical mistakes? How should they be corrected?
The sentence “She poured in to the beaker also” doesn’t really make sense. She should have said “Also she poured the soda into the beaker.”

    4. Is the story creative? How could it be made better?
Yes, it was creative, but to make it better they should use other person’s name.

    5. What are the positive points about the word problem?
The problem is organized and easy to understand.
